For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to run a business and to be a boss. At six years old I set up my first office i n the front foyer of my grandparents’ farm house. I cut up and stapled pads of paper and sat at my desk in my office (it was really a console in the foyer). I didn’t have too much to do there, and I’m pretty sure my grandfather got tired of looking for his paper, stapler and pens, but he was a good sport about it. Even at that age, I felt like that’s what I was supposed to do. I also wanted to have a house full of animals and a barn full of horses. My husband draws a line at two cats and a dog, but I’m still secretly working on the barn and the horses.
Aside from being ‘the boss’, I also like to make things with my own hands. I tried woodwork, that wasn’t for me. I've tried welding and metal work. That was a lot of fun and I might do more of that in future, but that wasn’t something I’d do every day. Do not ask me to crochet or knit anything. For several years I taught cake decorating and made specialty and wedding cakes. Even had a cake business for a little bit. I’ve also made jewelry and taught classes.
Eventually, I moved on to oils, lotions, soaps and candles. I’ve learned a lot about soaps, lotions, fragrance and essential oils over the last twenty years. How to mix and how to blend. Properties an ingredients. Curing times and preservatives. It was fun. And every time I made something or learned something, I felt re-energized. You know that saying “do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life?” Well, I think I might have found it. So I did more and l learned more. It took a while to get here, but I’m finally back to being ‘the boss.’
Essentials NorthWest LLC initially started as a personal quest to find and make bath and body products, and scented soy candles for personal use. Everyone is different. Some candles and scents appeal, and some do not. I can respect that. I wanted to create a line of candles, bath and body products that were unique, and made from simple ingredients that everyone can enjoy.
Making and selling our products allows me to be creative and share things that make me happy. And hopefully add a little happiness to your life too!
This business has been almost twenty years in the making. Everything has come together to create a custom online shop with all the things I love. I hope you’ll love them as much as I do!
Quality products, simple ingredients, and clean design are what matters. That’s what’s essential to me. What’s essential to you?
